Home-ing 60"x45"x4" ceramic, lustre, flameworked glass, neon gas, disco ball motor, Tesla coil
A sculptural installation with kinetic elements that employs ceramic, glass, and neon light to evoke the essence of shells—specifically leho(cowrie) and pū(conch). Shells represent an animal’s temporary home and extension of its body, reflecting the transient nature of physical spaces. The installation redefines home not as a singular tangible place, but as an intrinsic, invisible force within the body—one that is instinctive and impervious to physical loss. Central to the piece is a vague imprint suggesting a resting body within the twin-sized mattress shape. A glass conch shell pendulum, illuminated intermittently by neon light, symbolizes the elusive process of discovering a safe space within oneself—home.
